Hauling a 62 pound halibut into a small skiff is no easy task — even for the strongest and most experienced fisherman! What’s worse is lacking the adequate gear to capture such a prize catch. We ended up having to release the next (and larger) halibut to live another day. Needless to say, it turned out to be a lucky day for the halibut and the beginning of my journey to construct a gaff that is sturdy, attractive, durable and easy to transport.

Each handle on E. Bear’s Gaffs are hand made in Jackson Hole Wyoming; meticulously turned in walnut, cherry maple or mahogany with a pattern that allows ones hands to be placed in various positions for landing that prized fish.
